On Tuesday May 17th, our Department Drill was held at Peconic Auto Wreckers in Speonk, where the Manorville FD took a Suffolk County Instructor Led Training on how to use the New Res Q Jack System. These rescue jacks allow firefighters to stabilize automobiles involved in auto accidents. These jacks allow the members to work safely around the vehicles and help with the crews to extricate victims that could be trapped inside the vehicles. These Res Q Jacks are very versatile. They can help secure and stabilize vehicles on their side, on the roof, and on uneven grounds like the median or sides of roadways. These jacks can even be used to life a vehicle off the ground so a vehicle on it's roof with person trapped in side and be removed by allowing the firefighters to cut the roof of the vehicle off. All these skills where practiced during this drill. The Suffolk County Fire Academy instructors did a great job teaching the crews of the Manorville FD. Very special thank yo to Peconic Auto wreckers for donating 3 vehicles to the department to use and for allowing us to use their grounds to host this drill.
