On Sunday, March 2nd @ approximately 1335 Hours, Manorville FD was activated to respond to a reported vehicle fire. Upon arrival, 5-16-31 confirmed a working truck fire on the east bound lanes, just east of exit 70. Engine 5-16-2 was first due and started a line to extinguish the fire. Tanker 5-16-9 was 2nd due and Engine 5-16-7 was 3rd due. Manorville Fire Police responded to keep the scene safe and control the traffic. With very strong winds, the fire spread to the grass on the right shoulder and into the woods. Manorville FD required our brush trucks to help contain the fire. Mutual aid was also on scene to help. Center Moriches, East Moriches, and Eastport FD's came with Tankers and Brush Trucks to help contain the fire. Suffolk PD was also on scene for traffic control. Due to the truck fire, NYS Highway and NYS DEC also responded.
