On Sunday, June 11th @ 0655 Hours, The Manorville FD was activated to respond to a report Brush Fire at 197 North Street between Shultz Road and North weeks Ave. All 3 Chiefs responded and all 3 saw smoke in the area and smelled the fire pretty heavily. Units drove around but where unable to locate the source of the burning fire. Manorville FD called for Suffolk Police Aviation to assist in locating the fire from the air. SCPD Helicopter 2 located the fire close to Swan Lake Golf Course in the woods between Old River Road and Line Road. All Manorville Units where asked to relocate to Line Road. Manorville GI1 and GI2 made entry into the woods and followed Helicopter 2 from the air to find the fire. Upon finding the fire, the GI's called into command and requested additional Brush trucks as there where many spot fire in many different locations burning. Not too long into the incident, it was decided to relocate the command post and have all units enter into the woods off of Old River Road, instead of Line Road. Manorville Command asked for the Suffolk County Fire and Rescue to send their Drones to the scene to assist with locating all the different fires. Manorville FD called in 24 additional Fire and EMS Agencies for Mutual Aid Assistance. Suffolk Office of Emergency Management, Riverhead and Suffolk County Fire Marshall's where also called in. Manorville FD also had 2 Bull Dozers called into to assist as the terrain was very thick Brush, very difficult to drive our GI Brush Truck in certain areas. The Dozers made paths so the Fire Trucks could drive in to reach the burning Fires. Crews from Manorville FD and one other Department rescued a turtle that was in the Fire. They cleaned the turtle off, gave the Turtle Water and brought the Turtle to a safe area near a pond. All units where released at 1830 Hours. The Manorville FD would lie to thank the following agencies for assistance at the 12 hour long Brush Fire.
